Print-On-Demand?

Zero waste – 86 copies printed on demand.

We spoke with Jessica, a teacher from Emerald SHS, a public school in Central Queensland with 828 enrolled students, about their experience using My Yearbook to print the Emerald State High School Year 12 Class of 2022 Yearbook and the benefits it provided for their school community. From the convenience of an online book store to the reduced environmental impact, My Yearbook's printing on demand service proved to be a valuable resource for Emerald SHS. Read on to learn more about their positive experience and the helpful tips Jessica offers up for other schools considering this option.

Why print on demand —

What led your school to decide to print its yearbook on demand with our service?

Jessica: We really liked the quality and sustainability elements of My Yearbook. Additionally, the staff were very helpful and were located within QLD, which was a massive bonus for our school.

How did the online Book Store make it easier to order yearbooks for students, parents, and staff members?

Jessica: The online book store was massively convenient for our community. Living in a rural area, it can be difficult for parents to make it in to the school in order to place an order through our office during business hours. This gave all parties involved flexibility to place orders at any time. Having the book available online also meant that there was no double handling of money for our school, and reduced workload for ESHS staff.

What was the distribution process like? Did printing on demand help make this process easier?

Jessica: Printing on demand made the distribution process very easy for our school. We did not need to expend resources determining numbers, placing orders and following up with students to ensure payments. This also ensured that the school did not receive complaints if students/parents attempted to place orders after the payment period closed. All orders were placed through the website, printed and then sent to us with all the relevant information to distribute books to students, before the end of the year.

How did printing on demand help reduce waste for the school? Were there any other environmental benefits you noticed?

Jessica: The print on demand system ensured that we did not have any books remaining uncollected in office spaces that had to then be stored or thrown away. This was very appreciated by our admin staff and reduced the school’s overall environmental impact.

“The quality of our yearbooks was absolutely fantastic, with quality printing and binding. Additionally, when one yearbook turned up faulty, the team at My Yearbook were very helpful in organising a replacement be delivered ASAP.”

Tips and recommendations for other schools —

Do you have any tips for other schools looking to print their yearbooks on demand?

Jessica: Start early. Leave yourself enough time for people to be able to order the completed book, have it printed and shipped before the end of the school year. Also, make sure you understand the page specs and understand how much room to leave for borders, recommended quality of images, etc. before you begin, to save editing time later.

Why work with My Yearbook —

Would you recommend our printing on demand service to other schools looking to print their yearbooks? Why or why not?

Jessica: Yes. It was hugely convenient for our staff, who did not have to create order forms or take any money through the school. It also gave parents and students to flexibility to order their books from the comfort of their homes, at a time that was convenient to them.

Have you received any feedback from students, parents, or staff members about the printed yearbooks? If so, what have they said?

Jessica: We have received feedback from students, parents and staff, indicating how happy they were with the product. It is a fantastic, quality memory for our students to look back on in the years to come.

Would your school consider using our printing on demand service for any other publications or materials in the future?

Jessica: Absolutely. We have already begun work on our 2023 senior yearbook and will definitely be going through My Yearbook again.
