Printing on demand with Kinross School
At My Yearbook we have recently launched a new print on demand and drop shipping service to take the stress out of ordering for our schools.
As part of this service, My Yearbook hosts the yearbook for sale on our web based book store so alumni, students and their family can order directly from us.
Kinross School was our first yearbook to use this service and the results were fantastic. So, we asked their yearbook coordinator, Robyn some questions surrounding the process and whether she would do it again - in short the answer is of course YES.
About Kinross school's yearbook —
For those who don't know, can you tell us a little bit about your school?
Kinross Wolaroi School is a co-educational, Pre-K to Year 12, day and boarding school located in the thriving regional centre of Orange, New South Wales. The School has a rich boarding heritage and a connection with generations of regional families seeking a co-educational and independent boarding and day school for their family. There are currently over 1100 students and approximately 320 of those are boarders.
Designing and making a yearbook can be a daunting task for some. Do you have any tips and tricks when it comes to project managing, designing a cover and selecting what to include in your yearbook?
I have been coordinating the KWS Yearbook, The Tower, for quite a few years now and every year had had different challenges. The cover always has an image of the school’s iconic tower building. Inside is important to keep the selection of content and the design of the publication contemporary and relevant to the students, staff, and whole school community. Keeping track of every event as it happens throughout the year is important!
About printing on demand —
What made you choose to go down the print on demand route?
Moving to print on demand was mainly an environmental consideration. Only producing what is necessary has meant we don’t have uncollected copies in boxes at school. It has also alleviated the need for storage of hundreds of books before collection and the logistics of student distribution.
We'd love to hear your thoughts on the overall print on demand process with My Yearbook?
The print on demand service took the logistics of delivery out of our hands. It ensured that extra copies weren’t wasted and was easy for us to advertise and for parents to order. Overall, it will work well as we establish the relationship with MYB and have the systems in place for easy delivery to everyone who ordered. It was exciting getting the admin copies delivered to school.
In the future we are looking to have a print on demand option for all our archival yearbooks. A link on the school website could allow alumni to order any missing books or for reunions or special events.
Do you have any tips for anyone hoping to print and dropship their school yearbook on demand?
Make sure you have phone numbers for recipients!!
